What exactly is SMART and what is a true measure of it

Well this blog post is inspired by a conversation i was having yesterday with a friend okay well she seems to consider me a friend, but really she is a friend or a friend but i digress, Anyway the discussion was sparked by the question of when i am graduating my undergraduate degree when i gave her the answer "hopefully end of the year" she went on to say "Great good luck... im sure you'll ace it". She probably didn't know this at the time but i hate when people obviously meaning well and trying to wish me luck tell me "I am going to ace" something, why i hate such statements is because they are 100% pure and unadulterated bullshit because the people who make them really have no idea if the person they are saying it "me" to really has the capability to achieve what they are saying i can, and i explained this to her which lead almost inevitably to her saying "i'm not the dumb type" others at this point usually go with "but you're smart", anywho this then lead to a sort of heated discussion on what exactly SMART is.

Well in the beginning of the discussion i myself was not sure what my idea was SMART was i initially started with the argument that there is no real and definitive measure of what exactly smart is, we all know that like the Defy slogan infers "the true measure of genius is simplicity", but we are not talking GENIUS here we are talking regular good old fashioned SMARTS which are not an anomaly like GENIUS but are a more "usual" occurrence and i use the word "usual" very loosely int his context, Anywho i happened to be listening to K'naan "take a minute" at the time if u haven't heard it you must do but i digress again but point is the hook of the track goes "any man who knows a thing knows he knows not a damn damn thing at all" i probably took the statement out of context but none the less i agree with i think being SMART is realising that you are not an island and being able to best harness and make use of the resources around you and use them to aid you in the pursuit of your goals. One example i gave in the discussion i was having yesterday is that of people like Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook CEO/founder), Bill Gates (Microsoft Chairman/founder) and Richard Branson (Virgin CEO/Founder) these guys are all SMART in my view and they have GENIUSES working for them because they are SMART they we able to make the most and are still making the most of the cards they were dealt to achieve a goal. that ladies and gentlemen is what i think SMART is.

In conclusion SMART i think is the ability to get yourself to where you want to be the ability to against the odds succeed.
